A range of professionals have evaluated the claims that have been raised by this superfood, the results are promising. In recent study which evaluated the extent of antioxidants within the Acai berry, scientists found that the purple variety, which is commonly found in commercial applications contained several antioxidants which fought effectively against radicals, meaning that it was effective in protecting against destructive forces within our bodies. The study had less positive results for the white variety, which is not as commonly used, which had no antioxidant activity.
Further studies have shown that the blood antioxidant capacity will increase following two hours after it the Acai berry is consumed. In comparison to a number of other fruit juices the Acai berry, when tested for antioxidant capacity ranked higher than tea, apple and orange, the same as black cherry, cranberry juice, blueberry juice and had lower amounts than corncord grape, pomegranate, red wine and blueberry juice. This illustrates mixed results for the popular Acai Berry. Acai itself is much higher in antioxidants, with one source claiming it has 10 to 30 times more antioxidants that blueberries, pomegranates and grapes. The health benefits of the berry however are clear with a number of health professionals praising the Acai berries merits.
